Mole Fraction Formula
For component i, the mole fraction is xᵢ = nᵢ ÷ Σn, where nᵢ is the number of moles of the selected component and Σn is the total number of moles of all components.

Example
If a mixture contains 2 mol of nitrogen and 3 mol of oxygen, the total is 5 mol. The mole fraction of nitrogen is 2 ÷ 5 = 0.40, while oxygen has a mole fraction of 0.60.
Checking the Result
For a complete mixture, the mole fractions of all components add to 1. Because it is a ratio of amounts of substance, mole fraction has no physical unit.
