Discount Calculator Formula
A discount calculator formula helps you find how much money is saved from a discount and what the final price will be after the discount is applied.
Discount Amount Formula
To calculate the amount of money saved:
Discount Amount = Original Price × Discount Rate / 100
Final Price Formula
To find the price after applying the discount:
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
You can also calculate the final price directly with:
Final Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount Rate / 100)
Example
Suppose an item costs $80 and has a 25% discount.
Discount Amount = 80 × 25 / 100 = $20
Then subtract the discount from the original price:
Final Price = 80 − 20 = $60
So, the discount saves $20, and the final price is $60.
How to Calculate the Discount Percentage
If you know the original price and the amount saved, you can find the discount percentage using:
Discount Rate = (Discount Amount / Original Price) × 100
For example, if a $100 item is reduced by $15:
Discount Rate = (15 / 100) × 100 = 15%
